Three ways to start a Voice AI agent
HighLevel’s current Voice AI documentation supports multiple creation approaches, including prebuilt Marketplace agents, a custom agent builder and a visual Flow Based Builder. Recent updates also add templates, guided setup and “Build with AI” for generating flow graphs from natural-language descriptions.
What Build with AI changes
Instead of manually placing every node, a user can describe the call experience and let HighLevel generate a flow. That is useful for getting to a complete draft quickly, but it does not eliminate the need to review branches, actions, booking logic and failure paths.
Template vs custom flow
| Approach | Best when |
|---|---|
| Template/guided setup | The use case is common and speed matters. |
| Build with AI | You can describe a custom flow clearly and want a generated starting graph. |
| Manual flow editing | You need precise control over conditions, actions and edge cases. |
Test the failure paths
Do not test only the happy path. Try callers who interrupt, refuse to answer qualification questions, ask for an unavailable service, provide unclear names, request a human, or need a calendar that has no availability. A robust flow is defined by what it does when the conversation goes off-script.
Connect the flow to outcomes
A production flow should end in a useful business state: booking, transfer, qualified lead record, follow-up task, message or clear closure. The agent should not keep talking simply because it can.
